Finding joy and happiness even when life is hard.

“The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything.” - Anonymous
Do you ever wonder how in the world some people can be happy when they have what looks to be a horribly difficult life?
In today’s blog post, I am going to share how I believe that we can choose happiness regardless of our circumstances.
Over the past 25 years I have visited over 13 different countries and I noticed a very interesting pattern.
From my observation…..the people in the third world countries, who had next to nothing and were living in unbelievable housing…...with
No air conditioning (in over 100 degree weather)
No water (having to walk to get access to water)
These were the people that I noticed to be the happiest, most joyful and content people.
How could that even be possible!?
You would think that someone would be miserable and crying everyday if they had to live like that…...right!?
So, how is it that those people were so happy?
I think it is because even though they sure didn’t have the best of everything…..they absolutely chose to MAKE the best of everything.
Again, it all comes down to our choice.
I’m super curious……
What is your choice?
In your situation, today…..
Are you miserable for what you don’t have?
Or are you grateful for all you do have?
Is your cup half empty?
Or is it half full?
“Two things define you. Your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything.” - George Bernard Shaw
So in conclusion……
I believe that true happiness is not determined by our circumstances or by what is or isn’t happening in our lives.
True happiness is determined by our making a decision to CHOOSE to be happy.
To choose to see the positive
To choose to focus on the good that we do have
To see hardships as a chance to learn how it could be done differently next time
To chose to be grateful for what we DO have instead of focusing on what we wish we had
To choose to embrace each day and be thankful for it….to fully appreciate it and not take it for granted, because tomorrow is never promised.
To choose to focus on how we can help someone else instead of focusing on ourselves
